Who Are These Guys?

Yes, you probably recognized a lot of the names. Several of the people up there were real.

The following were all real life Scotland Yard detectives: Abberline (played by Johnny Depp in the "From Hell" movie), Sir Robert Anderson, Sergeant Godley, James Monro, and Commissioner Sir Charles Warren. All worked at the Yard sometime around 1887 - 1892.

Amongst the list we have several real life writers including: Robert Louis Stevenson, Lewis Carroll, and Arthur Conan Doyle.

The following are all individuals attached to Jack the Ripper. Some are suspects, others were just involved in a variety of ways: Annie Crook - supposedly Prince Albert's wife, Montague Druitt, Sir William Gull, Robert James Lees, John Netley, John Pizer, Walter Sickert, Dr. Francis Tumblety, and Prince Albert Victor

The following were all women who could have been victims of Jack the Ripper. Tabram is often thought to have been a victim of the Nichols Gang: Annie Chapman, Catharine Eddowes, Mary Kelly, Polly Nichols, Liz Stride, Martha Tabram

John Locke and Isaac Newton are obviously famous people. In my game they have lived un-naturally long lives.

Fictional Characters:

  • Dr. Henry Jenson (my version of Dr. Jekyl), Mr. Hyde, Sir Danvers Carew, John Utterson, Emma Carew, Lucy, and Spyder originate either from Robert Louis Stevenson's original story Jekyl and Hyde or from the Broadway Adaptation.
  • The Phantom of the Opera, Madame Giry and Meg Giry are all from The Phantom of the Opera. Raoul Renier is similar to the Raoul in the story although it should be obvious that the original was not a wererat.
  • Obviously Dracula, and Johnathan Harker originated from Brom Stoker's Dracula.
  • Sherlock Holmes, Mycroft Holmes, Mary Morstan, Dr. John Watson, and Moriarty are all from Arthur Conan Doyle's books about Sherlock Holmes.
  • Toddy MacFarlane originates from Robert Louis Stevenson's Body Snatcher short story.
  • Dr. Mystery is my adaptation of a French Pulp hero
  • Carl Stanford originates from several Call of Cthulhu books.

Clive Barker and John Cleese are not in any way based off of the originals nor any character the two may have played or created. In the case of John Cleese, I needed a name of a barrister and thought of A Fish Called Wanda. In the case of Clive Barker, I tossed it out for the Wax Museum's assistant, so the players would think that the assistant was far more than he was.

And yes a few of the names of the NPC's originate from people I know. When I have a hard time creating a name, I often simply take a name from someone I know. The character in no way is based off of the original person and is not meant to imply that the person of the same name is a foul blood sucking creature.
